stream dvd iso on pch a200 can it be done?

Postby Maureen » Tue Oct 30, 2012 7:53 pm

Hi,
Reading through the forums I am a little confused about streaming DVD iso from SC using a PCH A200 as front-end.

Can it be done and if yes, how do I configure the media location?

On my pch-a200 I have an nfs mount to /data/Media/Video/DVD, the share name is DVD.
The media location in SC is configured to use the same path, but (as opposed to my older pch-a110) I cannot seem to add a shared network location (like the NETWORK_SHARE/DVD), but it is in my database as I have imported settings from a previous installation that used a pch a110). My pch is turned on of course and the DVD share is mounted.

I get an httpd error when playing the iso:
[Tue Oct 30 20:41:28 2012] [error] [client 10.32.0.113] File does not exist: /var/www/html/swisscenter/file:

Using the SC gui I see this href entry is being used:
http://10.32.0.155:8080/file%3A%2F%2F%2 ... 20DVD1.iso

Hope someone can clear up if the old NETWORK_SHARE syntax is still working for the a-200 player or that it can be done in another way.

Thanks

Maureen

It is possible but it's not something that I have tried for quite some time, it's very possible that the functionality is currently broken, I will need to test.

Both the media location in SwissCenter and the defined network share on the PCH must point to exactly the same location, it sounds like you have already done this. For the DVD media location you then select the corresponding network share from the dropdown, it 'should' then work.

In the network share dropdown are you seeing the list of shares defined on the PCH?

Hi Pernod,
I can't see the network_share in the dropdown box, that's why I thought it was no longer working with this player. I do have the NETWORK_SHARE/DVD string in the database, but the SC administrator gui doesn't show it, although the generated href seems to be ok.

On the pch the share has a logical name and a path. In my case the logical name is DVD. So when I mount it, pch shows \\DVD in the gui. My nfs share as defined in my /etc/exports is /data/Media/Video/DVD and this the the path I have also specified in the pch. So is this a perfect match? Or does my /etc/exports have to show /DVD to match the pch logical name (I cannot make the logical name on the pch to include / charachters).

I will see if it's still working on my pch-a110, but I recall that the function broke for me over a year ago. As I don't have many DVD's I didn't really care. The person I am installing a new system for icm pch a-210 does have many DVD's.

Btw the iso plays fine using nfs from pch file browser menu.

The network share mount points differ between the PCH 100 and 200 series so your imported network share in the database will not work on the A200. Due to this it is not possible to play DVD's from the same SwissCenter installation on both 100 and 200 series players, it has to be configured for one or the other.

I suspect the detection of network shares is broken as I have some code changes here that have not been submitted yet. I'll try to find some time to investigate it's current status, probably just needs testing.

Thanks for your help.
Do you maybe have information on the network share mount point syntax for the a200? Then I may be able to test as well.

Btw there is a minor issue with the import of settings file on a new machine. The media locations are defined and visible in the SC admin gui, but the corresponding /var/www/html/swisscenter/media/<#subfolder> are not created. Clicking 'apply' on the media location from the admin gui allows the media subfolders to be created. Maybe an additional check during settings import is possible to check if the subfolders are already there.

I believe the latest development version creates the links during the import. When updated to the latest development there is also a new button on the Media Locations page to 'Recreate all symbolic links'.

Thanks pernod, for fixing that issue.

I discovered that it is now possible to telnet to the a200 series without having to install busybox. From there I can see the way the mount is setup and shared:

Code: Select all

10.32.0.155:/data/Media/Video/DVD on /opt/sybhttpd/localhost.drives/NETWORK_SHARE/share1 type nfs (rw,noatime,nodiratime,vers=3,rsize=32768,wsize=32768,soft,nolock,proto=udp,timeo=7,retrans=3,sec=sys,addr=10.32.0.155)

sh-3.00# ls -l /opt/sybhttpd/localhost.drives/NETWORK_SHARE/
lrwxrwxrwx    1 root     root           51 Nov  1 18:07 DVD -> /opt/sybhttpd/localhost.drives/NETWORK_SHARE/share1
drwxrwxrwx    2 root     root            0 Jan  1  2008 NETWORK_BROWSER
drwxrwxr-x    2 500      100          4096 Nov  1 17:30 share1

sh-3.00# cat /etc/exports
/share *(rw,sync,root_squash,anonuid=1001,anongid=1001)

So on my sc server the export (and path) is /data/Media/Video/DVD

I tried two NETWORK_SHARE syntaxes in the SC media location network share (first one not really something we want):
1: NETWORK_SHARE/share1
2: NETWORK_SHARE/DVD

For both occasions, when trying to play an iso file (sc logging level 9) I get no logging in support.log (really, nothing) but in httpd error_log still the error:

Code: Select all

File does not exist: /var/www/html/swisscenter/file:

Is there anything else I can try? Or is it the swisscenter code that results in the file does not exist error?

Could we hard code the network share somewhere in one of the SwissCenter files?

cheers, Klaas

It would be different for every user depending on their share name. I'm sure I have it working here but my Win7 shares are currently not working so haven't been able to test yet.

Hi,

Would like to add a network share, but I believe it does not work on the PCH A-200 series as it should (SwissCenter cannot detect the network share). But I understand the network share can also be hard coded somewhere.

Could you please advice in which file or table I can do that?

many thanks in advance, cheers
