Wish List - Recently Viewed Show List

Everytime I sit down to watch the next episode of the series I am curently watching, I have to drill down to the series, then the season, then the 'next' show I haven't watched yet. It would be nice to have a "Recently Viewed Series" on the Home page (index.php). This link would display a list of shows that have been viewed in the last x number of days. By selecting the show you want, it will then take you to the season of the last episode that you watched (or perhaps the last one in the list that hasn't been watched). Anybody else have any input on this?

Current setup to accomplish that:

Watch tv show -> Select Series -> Show unviewed ->Select Show

What you propose:

Recently watched -> Select Series -> Select Show

It saves exactly one step assuming the show you want to watch is within the time parameter of "recently watched" AND it filtered to list to only "unviewed" shows.

Am I understanding this correctly?

I now see the option to 'Show Unviewed'. There are many times the lower portion of the screen is not visible and I don't see the different options at the bottom of each page. After playing around with it, I can see it is a very nice feature indeed. My idea would basically only solve the issue of having to search for the series.

Watch tv show -> Recently Viewed ->Select Series -> Select Show

Selecting 'recently viewed' creates a list of any series you have watched in the last 30 (configurable) days. This list is normally only a handful of shows, at least for me anyway. Now my current favorites are right there where I want them.

Pressing 'select series' will open up the series and list only unviewed shows of that series.

The biggest slow down is doing the series search, at least with my Pinnacles slow remote times. Sometimes you have to pick several letters to get to your series = SLOW. Every button press on the remote = 10 seconds of pain. My idea cuts to the chase, getting you results much faster.

I do think the current functionality is very good, perhaps this would be considered for a future improvement?

Are you not seeing the options on all pages, or just those with a long synopsis that is not being truncated correctly so pushes the options off the bottom of the page? What is you video output, PAL/NTSC/720p, and what are yo viewing on NTSC CRT/HD1080p?

I'll have to think about the implications of adding your Recently Viewed feature.

I see this on long page lists. A list of 8 items will push the options off of the bottom of the page. I have seen long titles that also wrrap the title one line, that may also make it worse. Also, seems the 'Show Viewed' option is not wrapping the text, and is not aligning to the top, looks like this:

(A) Quick..[B] Turn Shuffle...................................() Set Viewed
........................................(C) Show Unviewed
..... Play...............Off...................................................Status
On my screen I can only read the very first row of the options, others pushed below screen, unless of course I navigate to the bottom of the page.

What is you video output, PAL/NTSC/720p, and what are yo viewing on NTSC CRT/HD1080p?.

I'm using NTSC output to NTSC CRT.

I thought about having such a feature too, but couldn't come up with a nice solution that scales.

I thought about having some sort of "favorite" TV shows to show up in an extra menu for easy access - or maybe just sort the favorites BEFORE anything else in the regular TV show series overview. This would require a minor DB modification, obiouvlsy, but would otherwise be easy to accomplish.

What's your take on tihs, Pernod?

I like the idea of having Favourites more than Recently Viewed.

To implement Favourites should be easy enough. Would this only be for TV series, or should individual episodes and movies be able to be marked as Favourite too?

How would Favourites be selected, an additional filter?

I think TV Series will do.
For me, placing them on top of the TV series page would be enough.

Sort of like "... order by (decode(is_favorite, true, 1, 99)) ...". An extra TV show favorites menu that can be linked from the front page would be nice to have, but I reckon that's a lot of work.

The next question would be how to assign a Favourite?

You could import it from TheTvDb.com. Given the users have an account there.

You could create a user preference containing the names of the series, as the series themself do not have a table.

The new database will have a table for each series, so I'll be adding a favourite column to it.

Ideally yes, but if you're on the latest SVN you'll notice that all colour buttons are already used.

Yes, in tv.php only 2 color buttons are used, so that would work great!
I like that even more. Please make it so that one can configure which one to show by default. I'd like favorites to show instantly, others might not.

As my favorites are rather static, I wouldn't mind setting them manually in mysql, too...

That's not a bad idea. The setup menu already has 8 items but I could move a maybe update and search to be icons rather than menu items.

Although I would favor a 'recently viewed' option, I really like the favorites idea and believe it will still solve my issues, and sounds like it is easier to implement. I think it should be by user if possible, and a manual setting would work well. I would like a 'favorites/show all' button to default to favorites as well, or be selectable.

I would not be opposed to a favorites menu, may give more room to grow the idea in the future.

Maybe we can use the "Manage Playlist" menu to manage playlists and favorites?

Basically all thats necessary is to dplicate the overview from tv.php and add toggle the favorites status when a TV series is "pressed". That just needs to toggle the favorites (or the favorites for that user.... in v2).
