There's a new site for scrobbling TV shows and movies at http://trakt.tv. They provide a comprehensive API that could easily be integrated into SwissCenter to provide recommendations based upon what you have already viewed. Any interest for this?

Hi Nigel,

I had a look at the trakt.tv-website and it looks interesting. Especially the recommendations based upon your own movie history is a nice to have. Is this something we could get through swisscenter as well? If so, not sure it's possible, it would be great when the recommendations are linked to one of the trailer features already in SwissCenter.

Anyway, I'm in favour of this option.

cheers, Klaas

You mean all those users that are viewing films that are only just available as torrents? Sign up only requires a user name, no real life details are asked for. There's an option to only let friends see your viewing history.

Sometimes it's good to have no friends :)

There is also a new site with similar functionality called follw.it
I've been using it a while in combination with MediaPortal.

It has not (yet) all functionality of trakt.tv, but in my case it is enough.
The api also works with json, like trakt.tv.

It would be nice to integrate trakt.tv and/or follw.it to synchronize the watch-flags of (in my case) MediaPortal with SwissCenter and vice-versa :)

Hi Nigel,

Do you intend to integrate this feature in SwissCenter some time? Still think it's a nice wannahave.

cheers, Klaas

Yes, I have an API key for the project but haven't done much else with it yet.

I've taken another look at integrating trakt into SwissCenter and now would like some feedback on how it should be used.

Trakt can track your library of TV and movies and mark which have been seen. I can submit TV and movies to trakt during the media search, and mark them seen when viewed. I guess we don't want to add all our TV and movies to trakt so was thinking of adding an option to the Media Locations to indicate which are to be synced with trakt.

There will be a new Trakt config page to specify your username/password and maybe add a list of trakt enabled media locations to this page with the option to sync with trakt (this will add missing items to the trakt library and sync with the viewed status from SwissCenter).

Regarding privacy options, being able to specify which media locations are scrobbled to trakt should address most concerns. The trakt banner that I have in my signature is only enabled for TV, there is an option on the trakt site to select TV and/or movies in the banner. To use the banner you do have to make your trakt library public though, which is another reason to specify which media locations are added (don't want that adult location added  )

The recommendations will come later, after the initial implementation.

Are there any other configuration items that should be added, for privacy or other reasons?

Your guess is completely correct ...

In addition, you may want to consider a two-way sync process. As you describe all movies/series marked by SwissCenter as seen will be marked in trakt the same. However, when you need to rebuild/restore the SwissCenter DB, it would be nice to have everything marked as seen in trakt, will be marked as seen in de Swiss DB as well.

Not sure if it's possible, but it would be nice.

As far as I can see now, the privacy aspect is properly addressed.

cheers, Klaas
