[SOLVED] Some categories play - some don't

Postby GiganticDays » Tue Jan 25, 2011 12:36 pm

I've moved back to Linux as the OS for my media server (Ubuntu 10.10).
Successfully installed SC thanks to this forum but have run into a strange problem.

I've set up the following categories:-
Films
Family Films
Home Movies
Music Videos
Music
TV Series
DVDs
Photos

I've entered my media locations and searched/found all my media, but only some of the categories will play on my Istar.

TV Shows, Nusic and Photos play ok
Even DVD isos play OK! (after I've manually accessed the share at least once)

Music Videos, Family Films, Home Movies and Films won't play.

Any ideas what could cause this?

Edit: I should have said - the behaviour is as follows:-

Click "Play" on the relevant movie, screen goes blank, then returns to the movie's menu.

In your SwissCenter folder there should be a media folder that contains symlinks to all your media. Does it contain everything?

It seems to. I noticed another thread with a similar problem (although none of his videos would play).
The solution mentioned symlinks, so I've removed the offending categories from SC config and reinstated them.
This will recreate the symlinks right?

I'll let you know what happens after I complete a media search.

Edit: Just noticed that one of my symlinks (Films) is duplicated and 2 others are missing (Photos & Music). Am I safe to manually delete them from the media folder, remove all locations via SC config, then re-enter locations?

You don't even need to re-enter the locations. Just edit and confirm each location without changing anything, this will recreate the symlink.

This just happened to me.

The symptom was that audio files (in this case) appeared to be there, then playing them just made the player skip to the next track after trying to play for 4 seconds. Then if there were no more tracks....back to the menu.

Turning up the logging to the max showed nothing.

In the media folder there were 3 symlinks. 2 to the same video folder, and 1 to a photos folder that is no longer a valid location. No symlink to audio folder at all.

I deleted the database and recreated it again and these did not get cleared away, as I thought they would......

Fixed now.
