Hi Nigel,

Is possible to have a link that takes you (back) to the website, eg in the top row (FAQ, Search, Members, User, Control Panel)?

cheers, Klaas

And just another quick question: what's going to happen with section "Documentation & FAQ"? Do you plan to plug this in the new website again?

cheers, Klaas

I don't see it as an option anywhere but it's something that I'll be looking into. If I have to make my own modifications to incorporate this then it may be style dependent.

This is the current wiki section, and will require a wiki plugin on the new site, but I haven't yet decided which to use.

There are no migration scripts available for this wiki so it may be some time before I get this section transferred. When the new site goes live the wiki data will still be in the database so it's not a priority at the moment.

I expect the site layout to change in the first few weeks as I discover new plugins to add various functionality.

Well, I think I'm about ready to do the final migration.

My only issue is the current documentation wiki, which will have to be manually copy/pasted from current to new wiki. I don't want to do this until I've moved the WordPress site from the wptest domain. I need to try to move the current site to a subdomain to ensure it's still accessible for reference, will try this over the weekend.

An update on the wiki...

I've installed a wiki plugin on the site and have manually copied over a couple of the pages. It looks fine and is integrated into WordPress which is good.

Alternatively I could use MediaWiki which is the most popular wiki package out there, used by Wikipedia and the NMT site. This would be a separate site, linked from the main page of the site in the same way I link to the forum.

I think I'd prefer to use MediaWiki as it's better supported and should be easier to maintain, but obviously isn't integrated into WordPress, Anyone have any thoughts or preferences on this?

Then again, do we actually need a wiki? Over the years the actually content added by users has been negligible so would it make more sense to simple copy the existing wiki into WordPress pages? Would a proper wiki encourage users to update it?

Edit: I'll answer my own question... we're going with MediaWiki. The reason is that the existing MamboWiki is actually a custom version of MediaWiki. I was able to install MediaWiki and point to the existing database and all content is already there!! See http://wptest.swisscenter.co.uk/w/index.php?title=Main_Page

Sounds good in principle.
But I get this:

Database error
A database query syntax error has occurred. This may indicate a bug in the software. The last attempted database query was:

(SQL query hidden)

from within function "Revision::fetchFromConds". MySQL returned error "1054: Unknown column 'rev_len' in 'field list' (localhost)".

I've moved a few things around in the backend since I posted, so looks like I broke something.

The current MamboWiki is a really old version of MediaWiki and so has a latin1 database. There's no easy way of converting this to the latest utf8 database so I may still have to copy/paste everything into the new wiki.

If I have to go with the copy/paste method then I still may opt to go for the WordPress Wiki plugin, it really depends on how well I can integrate MediaWiki into WordPress.

Edit: I'd re-copied the database but had failed to run the upgrade script on it again.

The current state of the new site is back at http://wptest.swisscenter.co.uk.

The forums are currently empty as I'll do the final migration just before I copy the site into root.

Any comments on presentation, navigation, content, etc.? Also any ideas on additional content that may be useful?

Hi Nigel,

The site looks very nice, absolutely well done …

Just two comments on the lay-out that I have on my screen.

login
The box in which you have to fill in the username and password do not fit in their frame (see image 1a). After being logged in it’s fine (see image 1b)

screenshots
There’s a blank space before the images appear (see image 2)

and that’s it re the lay-out, other comments may follow, cheers, Klaas

The screenshots page has been 'fixed'. There are likely other 'pages' that need slight reformatting, they will be updated gradually when discovered. The Screenshots menu was supposed to be disabled, you were supposed to navigated the menu to Themes, etc. to show the screenshots from Flickr.

I've not seen your login box issue, which browser do you use? Looks fine with Firefox.

Any suggestions for new content? I'm thinking of adding a page for compatible players showing an image of the player along with notes on content restrictions.

When it goes live I'll also add a link to the Download page for Simese 2.6.5.

I'd also appreciate updated installation guides that I can post on the same page.
