This is a common problem with wireless networks... I think the earlier boxes had a very small cache and the problem with wireless networks isn't so much the speed as the latency that causes the problems.
If you can't run a cable to the showcenter, then lots of users in the forums have had excellent results with the Powerline adaptors such as those made by Netgear
