Ubuntu Swisscenter + EVA700 - 2008/07/08 07:01 Right, I got swisscenter installed on my Ubuntu box - hardy heron, 8.04, and everything seems to be working fine ( I can browse it from a regular browser pointed at the right place, and the media shows up etc when it's selected .. )

However ... I can see no way of getting my (ethernet connected, wifi disabled) EVA700 to see the server ..

I can install, and make it see the likes of wizd etc, but no chance of seeing the one I actually want to use, swisscenter ...

What am I missing - I know it's going to be something very damned obvious !

Re: Ubuntu Swisscenter + EVA700 - 2008/07/08 07:06 How is your EVA700 conected to your server (is it through a router?).

Is there a firewall potentially blocking somewhere?
Player : Netgear EVA700 & Popcorn A-100 (081106)
Server : Vista SP1 Home Premium (Simese 2.07, SwissCenter current SVN)
Spec : Intel C2Q Q6600, 2GB RAM, 1Tb storage.

Re: Ubuntu Swisscenter + EVA700 - 2008/07/08 07:37 Server -> Switch (dumb, no firewalling) -> EVA700

As I say, if I run Wizd on the server, it shows up fine, but I just don't think the wife or kids could use it reliably (and I like SC )

Only potential for firewall is on the server itself, and I've already tried setting all iptables rules to Accept .. (been playin' with this Linux stuff since kernel numbers were in the 0.98 range !)

Edit : Only thing I can think of is that the EVA700 will only see uPNP servers ... and that SC doesn't provide a uPNP component ? would that fit the bill ?

EVA is, for what it's worth, only out of its' box, and the firmware updated to whatever was latest on the interweb when I turned it on .

Re: Ubuntu Swisscenter + EVA700 - 2008/07/08 11:04 Unlike Wizd, SiwssCenter doesn't act as a webserver (you use Apache, or whatever webserver you prefer). This means that there's nothing to respond to the broadcast send by the EVA when it tries to determine which servers are available.

You can either:

1 - Configure the EVA manually (this is possible on the Showcenter, but as I've never used an EVA I don't know for sure if you can do this). Usually this is just a case of entering the IP address and port where you've setup SwissCenter.

2 - Run the broadcast.pl perl script (<swisscenter_install_dir>/ext/broadcast/broadcast.pl) which should auto-configure the EVA.

Player : Pinnacle Showcenter 200 and 1000 (wired ethernet)
Server : Windows XP Pro running on an Athlon XP 2200, 768 Mb RAM, 1.8 Tb storage.

(Yeah, running SC on apache2 ... all makes sense now ! - oh ... EVA700 has no (obvious to me anyways) way of manually configuring it ... )

Thanks Rob
