The only difference in this file between the two releases is that the SQL was optimised to not join actors, directors, genres tables if they weren't required, and it works very well. I can't think of anything in there that could cause your category issue.
The best thing to do is to post a two logfiles (set to level 9) so that I can compare the SQL being executed when working and not working.
