Simese and PopCorn Hour - 2008/03/20 07:31There seems to be a problem (reported by others on the PopCorn Hour & Istar forums as well) when using the the Simese server software with a Syabas NMT.
The Popcorn Hour & iStar Mini are just badged Syabas NMT using the EM8634 chip.
The UPNP Discovery and Menus work fine, the problem is when streaming a movie via http. The film will start to play then it starts to stutter and freeze, from what I understand the http block size that Simese is sending is too small. I have tested the Popcorn Hour with IIS6 & myiHome and it streams just fine with either.
At the moment my work-around is to use Simese for the menu's on Port 8000 and IIS to stream the movies on port 80. Not a very clean solution and limits the use of bookmarks!!
I have emailed Marco in the hope that this can be fixed.
Thanks DuncanMedia Player: 2x PopCorn hour's (Just replaced the Snazio) Media Server: Windows 2003 with Simese & IIS6 Storage: 6Tb Raid-5 Internal to server, 16Tb Raid-6 iSCSI San.

Re: Simese and PopCorn Hour - 2008/03/20 16:49It looks like the problem is solved. I gave Duncan a new Simese version. It is really rough and not final, but it uses a more sophisticated internal webserver. I guess Syabas NMT uses some more 'advanced' HTTP stuff which the Simese old version cannot handle. If someone has the same problem and want to try this version, please let me know.

Re: Simese and PopCorn Hour - 2008/03/22 11:32It looks like the problem hasn't been solved. Right now we're complete lost .
By the way: this version does not support the bookmarking yet and yes, it starts with an empty gray window

Re: Simese and PopCorn Hour - 2008/03/22 15:32Sorry, it won't start because it's missing the 'FastMM_FullDebugMode.dll' The entire error message is this: "This application has failed to start because FastMM_FullDebugMode.dll was not found. Re: Simese and PopCorn Hour - 2008/03/23 07:14Ok, stupid . It was a debug build and I forgot this was needed. But...in the meanwhile I found one (again stupid) bug with the help of Duncan which could be the cause of the stutter. Could you try this one?

The 2.0 version will not send any files if the size is between 2GB and 4GB, 6GB-8GB etc. The other sizes are no problem. I'll try to squeeze the bookmarking feature in Simese and release a first alpha version.

Re: Simese and PopCorn Hour - 2008/03/26 05:18So far with a quick play with the debug version it looks good, tried very quickly a few different file types (avi's, mkv 720p, wmv 1080p) and they all seemed to stream well and fast forward nicely.
Will play a bit more over the next few days.
Thanks for all the work and let us know when you get a version with bookmarking working (and the media scheduler would be handy if you can put the code into the new version)
thanks again

Re: Simese and PopCorn Hour - 2008/03/28 15:50I just tried using the simese 2.0 exe. All I get is a mesage saying failed to access a php.ini file. If I run with admin priviledges then all I get is a blank debug window - no startup messages.
Any ideas?

In the zip file is a folder named 'web', if you extract thins in the application folder you can go to http://127.0.0.1:8000 (or your port number) and execute the media scheduler. You have to use 127.0.0.1. This page is not final and might disappear in a next version

You do have a running 1.4x Simese version and you just replaced the simese.exe? Where does the message appear, as a messagebox in the screen or in the browser?
The blank debug window is 'as designed', so this is normal.

Re: Simese and PopCorn Hour - 2008/03/31 12:01The old scheduler still works if the 'config\Simese\SimeseSchedule.ini' file exists. Only the interface has been removed. So if you didn't change anything, it should still work.

Marco, the latest SwissCenter release has a page for configuring the Simese scheduler via the SimeseSchedule.ini file, so you don't need to add a UI unless you want to

Re: Simese and PopCorn Hour - 2008/04/06 17:31I just tried version 2 debug for a second time in Vista. I replaced the original simese.exe with the degug version.
If I run not as admin I get an windows panel message saying int can't write to php.ini then an access violation message.
As admin, I get no messages but there's no tray icon - so I assume it isn't running?
Just checked - it is running. So how do I update my media files without the helpful tray menu choice to update?
Any advice?

but the lost of the tray icon is a shame ... will it appear in the final version?
I installed the debug because I was getting a freeze on avi files. Haven't had a chance to test out whether it's made any difference.

Re: Simese and PopCorn Hour - 2008/04/14 08:59I'm pretty sure resuming still isn't working on the Popcorn with the latest beta of Simese.
Can anyone else try it out to prove it's not just me.
Thanks

No tray icon, only a main window if you start it as executable and set ShowApplicationForm=1 under the [Common] section.
You can force the media update by using the http://localhost/8000/serverinfo. Here you can (un)install the application as a service or as a windows-startup exe.

Re: Simese and PopCorn Hour - 2008/04/15 18:56Oh dear ... 2.02 is very clumsy with this serverinfo page - I started it as executable without changing the ini file - I can't discover how to stop it!!!
Is the tray so difficult to reinstate?

Normally you shouldn't have to restart it, but I didn't think about the ini file... I'll think if something. In the mean time, use the task manager to 'end task' Simese.exe.
The tray... Well...I'm considering that too.

Re: Simese and PopCorn Hour - 2008/04/20 20:33Hi Everybody. This is my first post so please be gentle. I do own a Popcorn Hour and have decided to give SwissCenter a try for, hopefully, the best streaming performance out of the bunch of alternatives.
Anyway, I'm trying to get my Popcorn to see MKV and M2TS files. I've read this thread and added the file extensions to the "capabilities.php" file in the Simese application folder. I've restarted the services for Simese but I still can't see these types of files.
What am I missing? (I swear I did do a search)
Thanks.
EDIT: I figured it out. I had to run a media search. I can see all the files now. I just have to try it out now.

I had high hopes with Swisscenter with the PCH (since most of the clients for the PCH or SMB are so limited) and I like SS for my SC1000. Resume is one of the big features missing natively from the PCH and I thought SS could fix that. Alas, as another poster on this thread has noted, even with Simese 2.02 and SS 1.2 while I can play all kinds of content, resume doesn't work. The option shows up bu the PCH always starts back at the beginning of the content.
Has anybody gotten resume to work with Simese 2.02 and the PCH?

Re: Simese and PopCorn Hour - 2008/08/25 04:15Hi,
Any more news on resume, I'm now using Simese 2.05 and latest Swiss from CVS but it still doesn't seem to work. Everything else is great though.
Thanks for all the hard work.
