 Converting h264 mkv 1080 - 2008/01/12 03:15 It's probably been asked before but I couldn't find an answer. I'm sure othher people with hd tv's must be facing the same problem.

I'd like to be able to convert various h264 mkv files to something my Showcenter 200 can play.

I'd like to maintain their HD quality ie 720p, 1080p, etc with a little loss in quality as possible and have 5.1 audio quality (ac3?)

Has anyone got any recommendations on converter software and output format that I need to select which will play (ie wmv, divx, etc).

So far the best thing I've found is http://mediacoder.sourceforge.net which is free and works great.

I'm converting to xvid avi 1280x720 and ac3 5.1 did a quick test last night took around 2-3 times the length of the movie to convert. The output file was a similar size to the h264 mkv ac3 file (around 1gb) and seemed to play great on my sc 200.

I'll see how it goes, still my look into a Popcorn Hour player though.

The nice folks at Syabas have sent me one for development work with SwissCenter. Unfortunately it refuses to display the swisscenter interface properly (or play files )... so there's some more work needed to find out what the problem is.
