OT: how do the 'links' work? - 2007/08/15 13:39 For some time I've been toying with the idea of creating a simplistic file-based browser for my old showcenter box -- nothing as feature rich as SwissCenter (that's already been done).

I eventually found my way to "gen_playlist.php" and then "stream.php" but I'm still left scratching my head (the problem of being only a hobbyist with no real computer training and mostly .NET experience).

What do the links have to look like to correctly feed a file to the showcenter? Could I do it with a simple html page (i.e., say I had only one mp3 that I wanted to play and so I created a beautiful page with a link to .... where? that looked like .... what?).

Or does it have to be scripted (feeding http headers etc).

I realize Rob is probably still convalescing (ouch) but perhaps someone else has some experience?

Thanks,
Brian

Re: OT: how do the 'links' work? - 2007/08/16 19:19 Update: I should mention that I have tried a simple html file with links to:
- an mp3 on the webserver (ie. with href=http://localhost/file.mp3)
- an mp3 in a virtual directory pointing to my store of mp3's
(eg. href=http://localhost/mymp3s/file.mp3)
- the file using file path (ie. href=c:\inetpub\wwwroot\file.mp3

I also tried passing a file which contained the one line location/path to the file (ie. like a playlist does) and I sent mime type headers for a playlist.

And I tried loading a page that does a redirect to the mp3 after first setting the header to 302 (temporary redirect)...

none of these worked for me. I got either just a black screen or often the filename written across the bottom of a black screen but no music played. (or no video played when I tried with video).

My test files play with the swisscenter software so there's no problem with them.

Help is appreciated.

Re: OT: how do the 'links' work? - 2007/08/20 18:32 I am interested in this as well. It seems like there should be a way to manually put together the command to stream the media to the ShowCenter if you know the media type and the file path on the local PC. It seems like it would involve manipulating a few lines from stream.php. Not being a PHP coder myself, it's not obvious to me what needs to be changed though. Anyone?

Re: OT: how do the 'links' work? - 2007/08/24 23:28 Thanks for the suggestion Rob, though it didn't work for me just adding the html attributes (perhaps because I have the original sc1000 and it doesn't support the Syabas extensions [?]).

Anyway, I will perhaps try again when I have a chance, though I've already tried everything I can think of.

A shame too since I had a nice little browser working so that I can browse my files ... just not play them. One of life's little ironies.
