Minimum spec that people are using? - 2005/07/12 15:47 I'm currently updating some of the entries in the FAQ (and adding a lot of new ones) and I was wondering what is the lowest spec machine that anyone has SwissCenter running on? Also, what operating system versions are you using, and what network players?

Please could everyone take the time to post a quick reply with your system details.. something along the lines of:

Hardware: Pinnacle Showcenter
Server: Linux SuSE 9.3 running on Athlon XP 2200, 512 Mb RAM, 800 Gb storage.

thanks!
Swiss
Player : Pinnacle Showcenter 200 (wired ethernet)
Server : HP MediaSmart EX470 NAS (Windows Home Server / Sempron CPU / 2Gb RAM / 2.0 Tb Storage).

Re:Minimum spec that people are using? - 2006/02/21 11:41 I am running:

Hardware :
Pinnacle ShowCenter 200, full firmware update as of Feb. 19, 2006
( and man do they need another soon [can you say flac] )

Software :
I run the Pinnacle Server on port 8000. ( it is up to date as of Feb. 2006 )
I run Nero MediaHome on port 8001 ( when needed )
I run Simese on port 8002. ( SwiissCenter runs on top of Simese )

CPU :
Windows 2000, SP4 fully patched always, ( ok laugh and sluur MS about patch response )
2GB DDR 400, 3.2Ghz CPU Hyperthreaded, Intel 478
Multiple HDDs, inculding IDE(ATA100, ATA133) and SATA, and external USB 2.0
Most media files are on the external USB 2.0 drive ( 250GB )
OnBoard RealTek NIC is WAN only, PCI IntelPRO 1000 is LAN only.

Network :
Currently all hardwired, but a Toshiba Wireless server/hub/access-point
is available to visiting laptops. Yes I am a geek, Yes I have Geek friends,
Yes it is stupid to whip out a CAT5 each time one visits.
The Pinnacle is hardwired ( what am I stupid ). My wife has an Apple
1GHz Titanium laptop she's scared to boot ( techno phobe ), her company
gave it her anyway. It connects if ever booted at home via the wireless.

What else is there to tell, The Pinnacle server is ''''OK'''', well honestly
it doesn't suck, it was the best thing going after spending fruitless days
searching the web for compatible servers. Well, what I mean to say is :
UNTIL I FOUND SWISSCENTER.

Probablly not minimum specs, as the topic suggests, but I dont
hold a lot of hope that Windows 2000 will be around much longer.
Be assured tho, I will never adopt Windows XtraPower(drain). So
if there is anything you need tested on Win2K send it my way.

Maybe, but no-one says whether it's being used as a dedicated media server or their general multi-media/games PC. Also they may use other servers such as TVersity which requires more power for transcoding.

Just a comment

Re: Minimum spec that people are using? - 2007/06/08 16:38 No offense intended

I just found it rather amusing that the title of this was "minimum spec" and some of these machines are far from minimum.

It really depends. I use my "HTPC" (it's not really one because there's not yet a DVB card) for ripping DVDs and encoding them into XviD. In addition it acts as fileserver, P2P client and VPN gateway (okay , not much power needed ).
But all those tasks need a bit so I'm quite happy with my set-up. Even if it's over-powered ...
