videos not played (not found) - 2010/02/21 16:56 Hi,

I am using a Synolgy NAS DS 210j and sc.

I had sc installed on my nas - most features were running all right (so movies were playing) , but due to another problem that I have tried to solve (a problem with downloading extra-information) I have made some changes on my more-or-less well running sc-system, delete it and installed it new.

Since I have done that movies won't play:
Error-message when I try to start the movie from my showcenter: "Cannot connect to Server PC"
Error-message when I stry to start the movie from my PC: "page cannot be found" (so the typical error-message when you enter the URL of a non-existing page):

Some more information which can be helpful to identify the problem:
- I have installed sc exact like menion here in this forum
- When connected myself with the NAS as "root" - is that correct or should I login as "admin" or is there no difference?

I appreciate, if you have any ideas.

Re: videos not played (not found) - 2010/02/22 11:59 I expect this issue is related to doubled symlinks in your media directory. Have a look at my post to Cell on 2010/01/16 (14h:32) here.

before I try to do that - short question:

You have mentioned:"...Check the media locations you've entered in the SwissCenter config screen on the one hand and the symlinks created by Apache in directory '/media'. The latter should be done by telnetting your DS.".

Ok: my movie are in /volume1/video/Filme/

I kno whow to add this location in the swisscenter, but how do I creat the symlinks by Apache?
I know how to "telnet", but which command do I need?

Well, you shouldn't add any symlinks manually (I tried is several times, but didn't work out well). First check if there are any doubled symlinks.

In case you have doubled symlinks, you should remove all symlinks from your Synology by using telnet. In addition, you remove all media locations from the SwissCenter config. Then add them again (Apache will recreate the symlinks in the media directory).

After this, run a full media search, and you should be fine.

first of all - thank you for your assistance, that's great. I do not wish to bother you too long - but I found a strange reason for my problem (movies not playing).

First - symlink was not the problem - I 've checked that.

As you know - sc tries to download extra-information about a movie and also a movie-picture-file (which has the same name as the movie).

I happened to find out, that sc plays a movie without any problems if a picture-file for this movie exists.
For "12 Monkeys.avi" for example there was no picture-file, so it didn't play. (as "12 Monkeys.avi" is the 1st movie in my list, I alwyas tried to play this movies - and it never worked.)

I then tried to play "Zoolander.avi" (there is a picture-file for "Zoolander") and it played this movie without any probems.

I then created manually a picture-file for "12 Monkeys" - and wow - it played also this movie.
How can that be?

2 more infos:
- I never could (and still cant) enter in the swisscenter-config-menu the menu "edit video detail" - when I try to enter this menu, I jus get this "page not found error". (a database-problem?)
- in my log-file I found the following database-error-messages:

Generally, I am happy that I can play the movies now - so thanks for your support.
I just would be glad, if I could enter the "edit movie details" (in order to add all information manually, for movies that sc does not find).

Problems are solved.

Solution:
I just copied a file called "folder.jpg" into my movie-directory.

Since I have done that:
- all movies are played (even the ones without Filmcover-picture)
- edit video-details works.

Generally, it seems to works everything. I`m looking forward to test sc now.

Re: problems solved - folder.jpg - 2010/02/24 18:18 It may seem to be working but you have other problems indicated by your logfile.

All the 'Unable to store system preference' errors mean you cannot save any settings, and you likely have a database problem.

Do you see any problems reported on the System Tests page on the Configuration?

you're right. I seem to have a database-problem.

Situation:
- It seems to be possible to save settings. (it is possible to permanently change settings)
- my log-file is full of "unable to query database" -errors. Like:

- The only setting that I cannot change is to change the TrueType fonts in the "settings".

I have allready re-created the db several-times - no change.

Other error-messages on "System Test"? No, just the usual "Suggested PHP module 'zip' not installed"

I am using the lastest sc-version.
