Slow performance on linux/apache - 2009/10/21 07:01 Hi, I'm not a php programmer, that's why I'm asking for help. When I try to open a TV Serie or even a Video walking through the menus, it takes a long time before the images are displayed. I have the following debug log: As you can see, it takes for more than 30seconds to convert/resize the image.

I'm running SwissCenter on a Synology DS. The installation is done on a newly installed apache server (not the built in one) to have all modules available. Does anyone has a clue why it's taking so long?

Another problem. When I run SwissCenter on the built-in webserver (apache), then my movies/music start without any problem on my PCH A110. when I run Swisscenter on the apache server from optware, the PCH fails to start video/music (blank screen - buffering, and returns to the previous menu with a "failed to start video" message)

Re: Slow performance on linux/apache - 2009/10/21 16:23 Well, I’m not sure, but I got this type of problems before on my in-built Apache server (which I still use). It was related to the missing AlbumArt or FilmArt in the subsequent folder.

Re: Slow performance on linux/apache - 2009/10/22 02:05 If somebody could tell me what php function is called to resize the pictures, that would be a starting point for me. When SwissCenter is resizing, my cpu reaches 100% until the resizing process has finished...... Server: Synology Diskstation

Re: Slow performance on linux/apache - 2009/10/22 05:44 All images are resized by calls to the thumb.php script (which has the desired width and height passed to it). This is turn uses the functions in the base/image.php script to perform the actual resizing.

The resizing is known to be relatively slow as it's done via PHP and not an external tool such as ImageMagick.

Re: Slow performance on linux/apache - 2009/10/22 16:27 The issue could be caused by the resizing of images (in this case the AlbumArt and FilmArt), but once again missing these two have the same result. As Rob’s mentioning, the Synology NAS uses thumbnails to display images for the Synology web based photo album. SwissCenter doesn't make use of these thumbnails yet (hint … hint ); see ticket 138.

A simple workaround is to make sure that your AlbumArt and FilmArt is not larger than 100KB. More info can be found here, here and here.

On the other hand, it’s not so obvious that the resizing is really the problem as the in-built Apache version doesn’t give any problems, while the fresh installed one does …
