Re: Slow Browsing - 2010/01/04 16:41 Hi,

did what you suggested. No more "Now playing" screen here.
Screen remains black, only the stationname is displayed.
This display is from the snazi*, not from SwissCenter.
I just switch the Simese folder from original to new and back, never changed someting with PHP.
But it is really very responsive!
Anyway I really don't know either what I'm doing.

Maybe Nigel can say something about this.

Joel!

EDIT

My fault, it is working now with the changes you described in the radio_image.php!
Must have been someting that I did wrong, when I edited the file.
Still very responsive!!!
So if we are not shure, what we did with the editing of the PHP-file, maybe Nigel can tell what it is.
I'm also not very shure with the folder of Simese, if there are the right files and subfolders in it now. Maybe you should look at it and generate a new installation routine.
Thanks

Joel!

Re: Slow Browsing - 2010/01/05 08:43 marco wrote:
If you go back to the old version, do you switch PHP too? Because I think this is a PHP problem.

The new version connects to the wrong host : port. The debug message says: Connecting to ShoutCast server 6:1 instead of 66.90.121.5:10015

The $host[1] $host[2] code in music_radio_image.php doesn't always set the index but it handles the $host as a string.
If I "I don't know what I'm doing but this works" change this code (somewhere around line 70 in music_radio_image.php)
Code:

 $host[1] = $_REQUEST["host"]; $host[2] = $_REQUEST["port"];

to
Code:

 $host = array(0$_REQUEST["host"], $_REQUEST["port"]);

the now playing works.

Can anyone with PHP knowledge say something about this ?

Marco.

$host is actually passed as a string parameter, so should probably use another name for the $host array. I'll confirm this and submit a change.

Re: Slow Browsing - 2010/01/05 09:33 EDIT 2

Just to let yo know:
Suddenly today after working fo 5 hrs or so, the configuration pages where not reachable anymore. SC did not find MySQL anymore nor PHP. The testpage showed a lot of red crosses.
Switching back to the old version solved the problem. I never had such thing before. There must be something not really working OK in this version.

Re: Slow Browsing - 2010/01/06 03:13 I just shutdown the Simese server because it used about 512MB of virtual memory. So there is something strange happening. I'll check it out one of these days.

Re: Slow Browsing - 2010/01/09 08:54 I've fixed a PHP related (huge) memory leak and created a complete release which can be downloaded here. This is still an experimental release!. If you do a 'program files only' (default) install it should preserve the database.

I've added a RegisterServerCallback feature in the ini file. This will request a page from the client on startup. It has something to do with my upgrade to the latest Swisscenter firmware and the loss of my (paid) AC3 playback..... But I noticed it doesn't work if you have a default server, so I'll patch it for the next release.

Let me know how this version works better.

Marco.

Re: Slow Browsing - 2010/01/09 10:43 Hi Marco,

thanks for your work.
Can you pls provide only the Simese part of it, like the last one? Its easier to control and wont (maybe) spoil my existing installation.
(or can I extract it from your .exe?)

Thanks a lot

Re: Slow Browsing - 2010/01/09 10:55 Hi Joel,

I can get you a Simese only version tomorrow, but the program files only install is safe as long as you use the default php and mysql. I doesn't update and .php or database files.

Re: Slow Browsing - 2010/01/09 12:12 I agree the speed is excellent (must've got used to the slowness over time).

It is not ready for release though. I'm currently testing with Firefox and notice that navigation of menus and buttons in the Config are taking two clicks to get a response. It looks like the correct URL is being passed to the browser (correct in address bar), but the wrong page is being requested by Simese.

As an example try to Edit Video Details in the Config. Click a movie to edit and the browser address bar will contain the new page address but the actual page is not updated. It takes a second click to actually change the page.

I cannot confirm this. Do you have this on every session (even after a simese restart) or after a few pages?

Re: Slow Browsing - 2010/01/09 12:59 Do you have this on every session (even after a simese restart) or after a few pages?
Yes, every session. Another example is to 'Watch a video' and select a category, then 'Browse by title'. All videos are being listed rather than the selected category. I would expect this to be caused by not retrieving the PHP session details.

Re: Slow Browsing - 2010/01/09 13:15 If I browse the pages on my server (localhost) I sometimes can produce strange things. The art_missing jpg which is not correct and in the edit video details config (sometimes) the double click. But not from another computer. So indeed it looks like something goes wrong. I'll see if I can reproduce this on my development machine.

Re: Slow Browsing - 2010/01/09 19:19 Here too. SwissCenter is unable to connect to the database due to 'Too many connections'. Was not able to restart the Simese service, it hung on Stopping. Had to reboot!

There seems to be a problem with the agent string being passed back from the player too. The Popcorn is now being detected as 'Firefox/0.8.0+', which causes screen size and font issues since this agent string is not supported.

Re: Slow Browsing - 2010/01/10 05:34 Ok, so it seems PHP keeps the connection to MySQL so eventually MySQL has too many open connections. Can someone check the number of session files in de PHP session folder?

I'll try to find some time today to see if I can monitor the MySQL connections, look at the passing of the 'browser' identification and see if I can confirm the youtube/apple trailers.

Thanks for testing!

Marco.

Also noticed on 2.6 that when browsing videos via ie8 that you have to click on the page up/down arrow twice to get it to move

This was a problem in the first 2.6.0 release. I'll stop reusing the same release number

Re: Slow Browsing - 2010/01/10 08:29 On at the time:
The Unable to connect is because of the MySQL running out of connections. The mysql_pconnect (somehow) doesn't seem always seem to return a persistent connection and generating a new connection until the default max limit of 150 is reached. I don't know why.... A lot is written about mysql_connect vs mysql_pconnect on the internet.
A solution: change the mysql.max_persistent to 10 in the php.ini
Code:

[MySQL] ; Allow or prevent persistent links. mysql.allow_persistent On Maximum number of persistent links.  -1 means no limit. mysql.max_persistent 10

I'll update this in the next release.

Re: Slow Browsing - 2010/01/10 08:53 Forget the previous message. In the last release I commented some code something during my search for the previous bug. This was the call which cleared the resources of PHP after a request. After enabling the call, there is only mysql connection. So that's how it should be. PHP.ini adjustment is not needed, only a new Simese release.

I'm looking at the browser-agent question. But my box is recognized. If someone can clear the clients table, remove all php sessions and see what is inserted into the clients table.

Re: Slow Browsing - 2010/01/10 09:23 Version 2.6.1 here. A must upgrade for the 2.6.0 users.

Known issue: Sometimes Simese doesn't shut down.

Can someone tell me what they do to watch youtube/trailers? Is that an option I disabled? Or can someone debug the php files and find out what happens?

Another issue is the playing of streams. I do need a swisscenter patch for it to run. Is a new release scheduled?

Re: Slow Browsing - 2010/01/10 09:57 The options to play YouTube and trailers are now only available from a PC browser and Popcorn players (since ShowCenter and others are not capable).

When SwissCenter requests these videos we have to set the user_agent option in php.ini (see stream_url.php) to disguise ourselves as a Quicktime player, otherwise the trailer site will refuse to reply to the stream request.

Which streams are you referring to?

Ok, since I don't have this file I guess this is a feature in SVN. I'll do an update and see what this does.

The streams problem is about the '$host' discussing at the top of this page. Your reply "$host is actually passed as a string parameter, so should probably use another name for the $host array. I'll confirm this and submit a change."

This is already in SVN. See http://tools.assembla.com/swiss/changeset/1355

Re: Slow Browsing - 2010/01/10 11:45 Ok. Do you have an estimate when you release a next stable version?

So far I can say 2.6.1 does not support streaming from youtube etc. I have a version which does, but it needs a little more testing. I'll try to release it later today. I will open a new thread for the 2.6 problems.

A new stable release is due very soon (maybe a week or so hopefully).

Re: Slow Browsing - 2010/01/10 14:24 Ok nice. Then I'll wait with a new final release until Swisscenter gets released .

I'll release a 2.6.2 version in a new topic.
