Hi Nigel,
Linux command ‘which’ gives you the exact path to an executable, like vlc. I’ll give two examples: the first one is from my Synology Linux on which VideoLAN is installed, and a second one from my VM where VideoLAN is NOT installed.
example 1:| Code: | Synology> which vlc
/opt/bin/vlc
| example 2:| Code: | klaas@topologilinux:~$ which vlc
which: no vlc in (/usr/local/bin:/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/games:/usr/lib/java/bin:/usr
/lib/java/jre/bin:/usr/lib/qt/bin:/usr/share/texmf/bin:.)
