Here I post the gdf-fonts for a DS106 (Freescale MPC 8241: big endian).

Furthermore I have a few general suggestions for your manual:

First, Swisscenter do not automatically find the path for the font-files. I had to type the path on the Config-screen (Miscellaneous) myself. Your manual doesn't say anything about this. I red the suggestion in an earlier post from Babachan.

Second, in step 6 of your manual you describe that it is nessecary to change the permessions of the swisscenter-files. I think it is saver to place this step after step 14, when the font-files are copied and the phpf-files are updated.

Third, I don't understand why step 4 (restarting Apache) is nessecary. I think restarting Apache in step 9 is sufficient.

Fourth, the recent Synology-firmware versions you have the possibility for Virtual hosts. I suggest to update step 3 in your manual with this. First you have to make a new Virtual host for Swisscenter on the webpage of the Synology machine (page "Web services"). After that the file /usr/syno/etc/httpd-vhost.conf-user can be edited. This is easier than editing /usr/syno/apache/conf/httpd.conf-user as you describe in your manual. In the attached files you will find httpd-vhost.conf-user which I have on my DS106.

I hope this helps you and that I now did someting for you.

Hi Klaas,

i managed to get swisscenter installed on my DS 207+.
The media_search ran well and most of my media has been found.

While testing the swisscenter I tried to connect to http://IP_of_my_DS:8050/ and saw the swisscenter-startup screen.
I can browse though my media, but every time I am clicking on a movie or an audio file, I get redirected to music_selected.php or video_selected.php (eg. http://192.168.1.4:8050/music_selected.php?add=Y&type=artist&name=Artistname)
This shows an empty and blank page (no content at all - even in the page source).
I don't get any error messages only the blank page.
I have set all permissions to 777 and did all the suggested modifications to the swisscenter files but I don't find any solution which gets me to a working swisscenter.

I can provide any log-files or additional information if needed.

Can you please help me on this issue?

Sorry for answering so late. I am going to provide the log files and more explanations when I am coming home this evening.

For now, here are my general settings:

I have a DS 207+ with the swisscenter files being installed and modified like stated in this topic.

I have a macbook pro as client for the swisscenter (I tried to connect with firefox 3, safari and with IE 7 on a virtual machine)
If I try to connect to the swisscenter URL I can browse through the menus, but every time I click on a movie or mp3 being listed I don't receive any answer from swisscenter.
*EDIT* Therefor my firefox presents a blank page, and my Safari states that the server closed the connection unexpectedly.

As mediplayer I use a popcorn hour box (Network Media Tank). On this box I added the URL of the swisscenter to the webservices. After that I can again browse the contents of swisscenter but when I try to open a movie or a mp3 I get an error that there is no page to display (again I am going to bring in the exact messages this evening *EDIT* I can confirm this).

In the swisscenter log file there is (setting the debug level to "9") no error or warning shown.
I am going to post this log later on.

Do you need additional files I should provide?
Please tell me then. (for example: special configuration files, etc.)

I forgot to write that if I manually enter the URL: http:/IP_of_SC:8050/media/ I can see the symlinks to the media directories and if I click on a media file it Plays in the Browser.

As I said, I am going to send the Log including the php.ini file to you this evening.

You can try to update SwissCenter to the latest development release and try again. If that doesn't work, remove all users except for the default user from your system. Let's see what it does.

For some reason the Synology times out if there's no AlbumArt or FilmArt available since the Synology firmware upgrade DSM 2.1-0803; the default SwissCenter AlbumArt ('/images/art_missing.jpg) and FilmArt ('/images/filmart.jpg') aren't loaded anymore (see also here and here).

If so, An easy way to get things working is to put at least one AlnumArty file in the main music directory. If a certain sub-directory doesn't contain an AlbumArt file it will pick the one from the main directory and your music will play.

Re movies I'm not sure this trick will work, on my own system I made sure that every single video file has its own FilmArt file.

I assume you refer to SVN1258. Unfortunately it doesn’t solve the problem for me …

BTW having a standard FilmArt in the main movie directory carrying a name as defined as AlbumArt in the SwissCenter config screen will solve the problem like it does for audio.

It seems that you are now running Swisscenter on your D107+ and on a WIN XP machine while also using all features of your PCH A110.

Since I continue to fail playing iso, MKV, videos (all > 2 GByte) from my DS207+ SwissCenter linux installation on my PCH-A100:

I wonder whether this works flawless in your case.

I can´t imagine that my full HD (1920 x 1080 TV) or my RAID1 dual HDD in my DS207+ makes the difference!

Well, I'm not using iso or MKV files. However, I tried a large file (2.9 GByte) and it played without problems on Synology/PCH system.

There could be a problem with the HD in some way, but no idea what it could be. I'm almost certain that the RAID has no influence on the issue.

thanks for your information.

I still believe that I face probably time-out issues with SC on my Synology DS207+ while trying to play iso-files or large MKVs. (Of cause all of these files work fine while browsing straight with the PCH).

I also have time-out issues with the play-now screen: If I change the resolution of my PCH to the TV from 1080p to 720p the play-now screen starts to work.

My thought is that the limited "power" of the 500 MHz CPU in the Synology DS207+ leads to time out with SC and probably the RAID1 (and probably also the Surveilliance station with one network camera) consumes just that much power of the CPU that makes the difference beteen your and my installation.

I am already considering to upgrade to a DS209.

I will also reinstall Swisscenter using the latest version of your manual. (I hope this will solve a number of issues I still experience.)

Your forum signature shows you dont have the latest version of the Synology firmware (DSM 2.0-0803). Do you have a specific reason why you did not update to a newer Synology firmware that may also be relevant for me? (Or is all working fine for you and thus there is no reason to update the firmware)

Next, I like to use the same SVN as you indicated in the title of the manual (1265). But I cant seem to find the relevant files in a zip-package. (I can find the official releases in packages). Should I install v1.22 and than in the SC menu upgrade? I have been searching the forums but so far I only found the link to the "tree" etc.

Finally, I was hoping we might share some experiences directly over E-mail since we have such a similar set-up. (and share relevant findings on the forum.)

Yesterday I updated the Synology firmware, but adjusted my signature today; I’m using the latest SwissCenter development release; SwissCenter works fine with me.

If you want to reinstall, I suggest you start with SVN 1.22 and then upgrade to latest development release (that’s probably the easiest thing). Alternatively, I can make my version of SwissCenter available, which has some minor differences with the official release.

Direct contact over the e-mail is fine with me, but exchange has to go through the admins.

Just started on the virtual host part of the install. Seems that the current version of the Synology firmware does only support 1 sub folder (only 1 level).

So I can enter swiss or svr in the in the virtual host menu but not svr/swiss.
So I can only set-up the folder structure /volume1/web/svr/ or /volume1/web/swiss/ and not /volume1/web/svr/swiss/

Next I am not sure what to enter for the hostname: 192.168.1.10:8050?
(where 192.168.1.10 is my NAS IP)

And maybe the below code in the httpd-vhost.conf-user in the manual is not correct?

Well, I’ve got no problems with VirtualHost, so that shouldn’t be the problem. From your error messages I expect that the problem is related to the case sensitivity of the Synology firmware (introduced since the 8-series FW).

Standard, the Synology web folder is written with lower case fonts, so standard the path is

On my system I have changed the lower case font in upper case fonts, meaning

So, if the real path is with lower case fonts and you plug-in upper case fonts paths in the VirtualHost you’ll get the error messages you mentioned.

Having recently bought a DS409, with the intention of hosting Swisscenter, I've been following through your install guide pretty successfully so far...

I have one or two questions, though..

First off, I've managed to get things up and running, displaying menus, and indexing media. Despite following the instructions for installing the GD fonts, I get nothing but a black screen (with tiny yellow progress bar) when playing music. There was a note in one of the posts on this thread about maybe needing other sizes (The showcenter is listed as 1080x640 resolution), and that details of what was needed would be found in the logs.
I wasn't able to find anything in the support log, though...
I will admit that I should probably have spent a bit more time troubleshooting this, but any pointers would be appreciated.

The next thing, which is a bit odd (as in, it hasn't been mentioned here so far) is that when I enter the configuration screen (http://<ip address>:8050/config), there is nothing where the installation checks should be - the main screen area is blank.
Looking at the source code for the displayed page, it appears incomplete - it ends with the following;

Not having a “Now Playing”-screen and a blank "systems check"-page in the SwissCenter config utility is one and the same problem, there’s a problem with the fonts related to the system you’ve got: “little endian” or “big endian”. On my site I’ve put the fonts applicable for the “little endian” only (still need to adjust that), while you probably need the “big endian”-fonts.

You can download a set here that works for others, but note I cannot test the fonts.

I would say, give it a try, and if it’s not working just drop a line.

I tried that, and it doesn't seem to have worked.
Now, I'm remotely accessing my home PC, and going from there to the DS409, so I can't check the "Now Playing" screen on the Showcenter until I get home...

But, here's what I've done;
- Extracted the fonts at that link, and placed them in the /fonts directory, replacing the ones that were there.
- Re-applied the base/image.php and base/image_screens.php files (I had upgraded to the latest dev. release earlier today, and although I had redone the shell_exec -> exec editing, had forgotten about those.
- restarted the apache server, for good measure.

I'm still seeing a blank screen when I go to look at the System Tests.

Just wondering, do I need to specify the font name & path in the 'Advanced Options' -> Miscellaneous section? It's currently blank. SwissCenter SVN 1337

Stupid mistake because I read about the case sensitivity.

Anyway I changed this but still have error on line 25:
Syntax error on line 25 of /usr/syno/etc/httpd-vhost.conf-user:
ErrorDocument takes two arguments, Change responses for HTTP errors
/usr/syno/etc.defaults/rc.d/S97apache-user.sh: user httpd could not be started

Can you explain what the 3 lines of code starting with the ErrorDocument are for? These are new compared to an older version of the manual I used.

With respect to the step to create the virtual host via the synology web services menu; I skipped this step because like explained I could not enter the full path. But once I passed step 9 of the manual and thus restarted apache, the virtual host list of the Synology showed a new host. In the list it looks like:

swiss"______________________Swisscenter______HTTP_____________8050

So the virtual host was created automatically but with the foldername swiss" so including a " character

Well, these lines are automatically generated by the Synology; I assume some error appeared in your line 25, but I expect that you can delete those entire three lines without any problem.

Just an update:

SC is running again with most functions working properly.

Some things still to fix:

ZIP module (not so important)
Listing of my TV series (posted a qustion about this)
Size now playing screen

The primary problem where my showcenter was not able to conect to SC (only after changing the index file) is solved.

The important problem I do now have is that some times when I select a movie or song the I get a blue screen on the showcenter which states it cant connect. I think it has to do with damaged files on my CS407 (according to various forums). After a week its still gives the message that its reindexing files. A modified '/base/image_screens.php' isn't neccessary anymore (it's also excluded from the manual); you can apply the 'official' one.

I've posted some adjusted versions of '/base/image_screens.php' (see here) for a more comprehensive radio Now Playing-screen; these versions apply to all set-ups.

I moved from the latest Synology official firmware release to the beta version.
The Synology support team advised this because my CS407 did not finish the re-indexing process.

Some observations:

1. Media search via the config menu now works (Not 100% sure it has to do with the new firmware but in the past this function did not work) So no need perse to use the search method via the url method "

I also changed from SC 1.22 to the latest SVN

Another message to ask for help.

I have updated my Synology DS109 to DSM 2.2-0942.

I have opened webservices checked 'enable webstation', 'enable PHP cache' and 'My SQL' and unchecked 'Turn on PHP configuration option register_globals' as per the manual.

After that I try to make the virtual host by pressing the virtual host button where a new window appears and whereby I select 'create'. I copy/ paste the line of the manual into it (since typing will not work). the following message appears then in a new window:

'Web Services

The value of [Sub-folder Name], [Host Name] and [Port] cannot be empty'.

I do not know what I'm doing wrong

Then go to step [4] of the manual and adjust the virtual host you've created. I assume that will do the trick; if not drop a line.

I named the Vitual host volume 1 and add the following

and went further with the manual. I completed the amnua lhowever when trying to connect to swisscenter did this not work. I have decided to delete the above virtual host.

Please can you advise me what to put in the subname, host name protocol and port? I have a feeling that both are related to each other but I'm not sure how or am i completely wrong?

Re: Manual to install Swisscenter on Synology CS/DS - 2009/09/23 14:11 I suggest you carry out ste [4] of the manual without adding a virtual host through the Synology configuation screen. Then reboot the Synolog and I expect it will work.

Also be aware there your Synology is CASE sensitive, so the path entered in file '/usr/syno/etc/httpd-vhost.conf-user' must be identical to the real path; if not the virtual host fails.

Unfortunatelly it did not do the trick

The problem I experience is with setting the user rights in step 6. The volume 1 pointer dissapears after entering the chmod 777... line.

All other steps I can enter by starting a new telnet session but then it stops at line 14 since by entering that line the config screen should pop-up however I get a Synology error screen telling me that the page cannot be found.

I have the idea that I do something very small wrong but I do not know what

I sincerely hope you can point me in the right direction (again)

You might have a problem with the security (based upon internal IPs). Go back to the VirtualHost (with telnet), and the replace:

It does do nothing. I have set my firewall security of my PCs in a range of the IP addresses in the network (e.g. 192.1.168.1.1x until 192.1.168.1.1y. In the previous versions of DS and SC software I had no problem with it.

I have also tried to change the line 192.168.1.0 into 192.1.68.1.1 or in the specific fixed IP address of my DS but all with no result.

I checked also whether the document root was correct and it is volume1/web/svr/swiss.

I understand that there is also a firewall in the DS software which was not there in the previous version. What should be the configuration of that?

Everything goes well up to the line:

chmod -R 777 swiss

This will not bring back the volume1>

By closing down and open a new telnet session the remaining manual is done step by step without any problem except then the above step and step 14: config screen cannot be found.

I wish I had not update the DS.

The problem could be related the VirtualHost itself. So we need to find out whether the VirtualHost is working well. Replace files ‘/index.php’ and ‘/config/index.php’ with the attached ones (of course after making a copy of both files).
Then open the files through your browser:

If the VirtualHost works as it should your return will be:

Yep, it seems to be either the VirtualHost, but the web server as such can be causing the problem as well.

Can you save the attached file ‘index.php’ in your directory ‘/volume1/web/’ and then open in in FIREFOX with

http://<IP_synology>
and see what it does.

If the web server works you’ll get ‘Hooray, the web server works!’

It looks like the webserver is working. Although I did not get the 'Huray' message but the welcome text of webstation.

Will it help if I delete the synology created virtual host and put in manually the folder structure and thus skip step 1-3 of the manual?

What you could do is deleting the VirtualHost and do step 4 in file '/usr/syno/apache/conf/httpd.conf-user' like you did before Synology introduced the separate VirtualHost. If you do so, only step [2] can be skipped.
