Where is Simese 2.02? - 2008/11/19 11:57 On some movies, I rip a single VOB and then use a program called SUPER to shrink them down to about a 1 gig avi file. Since upgrading to Simese 2.07, these movies now studder when played on the Popcorn Hour (they play fine on the ShowCenter).

I would like to go back to Simese 2.02 to see if the problem goes away but I can't find it.

Little Help?

Re: Where is Simese 2.02? - 2008/11/19 12:19 It seems I threw a few files away, but it looks like I still have a 2.0.2 here.

Re: Where is Simese 2.02? - 2008/11/19 12:42 Thanks Marco...

Well.. that isn't it.

Darn it.... these AVI files now have a brief pause every 5 or 6 seconds and I'm just stumped.

Re: Where is Simese 2.02? - 2008/11/19 13:36 Ok .. looking for help here from anyone.

Here is a screenshot of the settings I used in Super to encode the vobs. The AVI files created play just fine on the ShowCenter. The Popcorn Hour hates them causing a pause every 5 or 6 seconds. I get the same result if I play them from SwissCenter or from a network share. Any help or advice would be sincerely appreciated.

Re: Where is Simese 2.02? - 2008/11/19 14:20 Have not done this myself for awhile but looking at the info of some existing avi's I'd say your video bitrate is a little high, bring it down to ~800kbps.

Your audio sample rate is low too, maybe better to up the frequency to 48000 and increase bitrate to 128kbps.

Re: Where is Simese 2.02? - 2008/11/19 16:57 Word has it that I'm an idiot.

That frame/sec of 25 is a PAL setting and I'm in the land of NTSC so it should be 29.97. Why this made no difference to the ShowCenter is a mystery to me...

Re-encoding a file now to see if that does the trick (no matter what it appears that many files will have to re-encoded)

Re: Where is Simese 2.02? - 2008/11/20 10:00 For anyone that might someday run into this.

For me, the following settings needed to be changed.

Frame/Sec 23.976

Sampling Freq 48000

Bitrate 128

and the video plays fine.

I find it very interesting that no matter what the settings, the ShowCenter would manage to play the file while the more superior PCH would not.
