setting up tv shows - 2008/09/22 18:20 Hi just need a litle help setting up the categories for tv shows . I have the shows already in subject folders then broken down after that into the series name as the folder name. so star trek is in a sub folder called scfi and then inside of that star trek subfolder. This works fine for the parser but when accessing the folders from my eva700 when i click on tv shows it doesnt do anything, ihave to use all categoris to show all the shows, how d i set it up to show sub folders there?

Also the resume functon does not seem to work on mpgs or avis

can i also clarify for thos using eva700 is theis set up compatible for winodws vista as i am using window mce 2005 and was thinking of upgrading

Re: setting up tv shows - 2008/09/22 19:08 To use categories with your TV series you will have to have multiple media locations each assigned to a different category. ie. your scifi folder will be a media location assign to category 'SciFi'.

The EVA700 is not capable of resuming video files.

Upgrading to Vista will not be a problem.

Re: setting up tv shows - 2008/09/22 19:09 star trek is in a sub folder called scfi
How did you set up the media locations and categories..

Re: setting up tv shows - 2008/09/23 12:28 current file structure is

root drive ------- > scifi ----------> star trek
......|..........................--------- > blakes 7
......|
......|-------------->drama --------> dexter
......|..............................------- > boston legal
......|
......|-------------->comedy -------> Monty python
.......................................------- >Ripping yarns

so as you can see my media drive partition is set up more or less like this
the categories as yet do not appear when selecting tv shows --> categories

i would like to have categories for movies too and my recordings from tv too.
Id like the movies to be in categories too, i intend to make a hugh drive full of recorded stuff and will need to be particular about how i arrange stuff in folders to to keep track of it.
so i need to set up the categories pointing at specific sub directories? i think i have done this already but i will check again.

How many of you are using eva700 out there wondered if any of you have got fed up with yet, i got mine super cheap after looking for a solution to extend my media centre pc to watcg recordings elsewhere , certainly has foibles dont it!

Re: setting up tv shows - 2008/09/23 12:40 The question was how you set it up in the configuration in Swisscenter

You should have set up categories for SciFi, Drama, and Comedy and media locations for SciFi, Drama, and comedy. Identify these as media type TV Series and do a media search.

Did you do that?

I paid full price for it when they first became available, after much waiting. I'm sure most users are using plain servers such as Twonky and so are not seeing what it's actually capable of.
It's not the best device but it serves it's purpose and it's useability has definitely been extended with SwissCenter

Re: setting up tv shows - 2008/09/23 15:10 i totally agree ive gone straight to using the best software available for the eva700 such a shame it has been cast aside by netgear.

Just as a matter of interest if you could nominate the best upnp wireless media player out there at the moment what would it be i wonder?

Re: setting up tv shows - 2008/09/23 15:43 The best media player would be the Popcorn Hour. I wouldn't recommend a wireless player anymore as they cannot handle HD streaming (yet). Player : Netgear EVA700 & Popcorn A-100 (081106)

Re: setting up tv shows - 2008/09/23 17:23 Can you save your settings and attach the xml file. It will tell us exactly how you have things configured. Player : Netgear EVA700 & Popcorn A-100 (081106)

Re: setting up tv shows - 2008/09/23 20:22 I'm not used to looking at xml files but it appears that you have the categories set up as sub categories to a parent called tv series.

If that's the case, don't do that. Remove the parent category and try again.

Re: setting up tv shows - 2008/09/23 20:42 I've confirmed this as a bug when using sub-categories with TV series.

In your case you don't need them though. As Stu said you should remove the 'TV series' parent category and it should work as you expect.

Re: setting up tv shows - 2008/09/24 06:41 The sub-categories feature is working fine for Videos, only TV Series have an issue.

I'm in the UK, my Popcorn was generously donated by the manufacturers for development purposes

Re: setting up tv shows - 2008/09/24 08:16 lucky u

i will alter the categories to remove tv series as parent category to the existing sub categories what will i put in that field instead?

i notice maplin are selling KISS 1600 and another generic upnp wireless media player do u have any experience of them at all??

The resume thing with eva700 is that another firmware issue??

Re: setting up tv shows - 2008/09/24 08:29 Just simply remove the tv series category, existing sub-categories should automatically change to have -None- as their parent.

Wouldn't recommend a KISS as I've not heard of many users so can't guarantee compatibility. If you want another wireless player then get a ShowCenter 250HD as it's probably the most common and widely supported. I wouldn't replace the EVA though, it's really not that bad.

The resume thing could be fixed with a firmware update on the EVA but it was never intended to resume so not really a bug but a missing featrure.

Re: setting up tv shows - 2008/09/24 11:15 ok ill stick with the eva then

sorry dont mean to be asking too many questions, but im thinking of archiving my own dvds to a large harddrive .Am i correct in saying if i mirror the entire VOB structure into a folder on my harddrive (keeping all filenames the same?) then i will be able to play it on the eva just as though it was in a dvd player including features too.

I may consider compressing them to DIVX 6 but then would i lose all the dvd menu features etc, what software do you think would be the best to convert a dvd down to an avi???

BTW are you the creator of swiss centre?

Re: setting up tv shows - 2008/09/24 12:56 At the moment the only way to play DVD's how they were intended with menus is with a Popcorn Hour player, it's firmware is able to interpret the DVD menu structure.

Copying the VOB's or ripping to AVI would only allow you to play the actual video (no menus). There would be no chapters either.
