Streaming HD content problems - 2008/09/21 05:09 Hi,

while streaming HD content on my PCH with Swisscenter (Simese 2.0, Swisscenter 1.21) the picture and sound is stuttering after about 30 seconds.
Network traffic uses 12 percent of 100mbits/s. I think that is not enough.

When using e.g myIhome I have about 30 percent which is much better (but still not sufficient).
All the testet clips are running perfectly when streaming from USB stick.

All firewalls and virus scanners are not running during the test.

How can I speed up my http stream?

Re: Streaming HD content problems - 2008/09/22 03:45 Hi,
is it possible that my virus scanner (Avira Antivir Security Suite) is checking the outgoing stream? Could this cause my transfer rate problem?

If you are having stuttering problems with a wired connection, either you have a bad file or there is a problem on your network.

Since it appears that you have confirmed the file to be ok. I would look to the network. Shut off all the virus scanners, firewalls, etc and see if the problem goes away.

Re: Streaming HD content problems - 2008/09/26 06:48 I turned off all scanners or firewalls. The problem still consists.
I wonder why streaming over SMB share works totally fine. No stuttering at all. Normaly HTTP should have a higher transfer rate, right?

Would it make sense to look at the log file? Or is there another way to find out where the bottleneck is?

Any help would be welcome as I run out of ideas right now...

Re: Streaming HD content problems - 2008/09/26 07:00 In the release notes for the current beta firmware:

Firmware 01-17-080822-15-POP-402 (00-17-080822-15-POP-402 Apps) Beta1 :

MKV fixes
- HTTP cache increase to improve HTTP streaming performance

So it's a known issue and you should see improvement in the next firmware release. We're currently on Firmware 01-17-080918-15-POP-402 RC1 so shouldn't be long before release.

Re: Streaming HD content problems - 2008/09/26 07:55 good news... Thanks for the info.

So it seems to be a PCH issue and not a Simese/Swisscenter thing?!

I still wonder why other PCH owners tell me about excelent performance with HTTP...

Maybe they're not streaming HD content, or HD that's sampled at a lower bitrate.

Re: Streaming HD content problems - 2008/10/04 18:38 Well count me as somebody who streams HD content successfully. It's not Blu-Ray rips but HD DVB-T broadcasts from our local broadcaster as captured. Content is AVC/DD5.1 running at about 10Mbs for the video and 384Kbs for the audio. I stream using Swisscenter to a PCH over a 802.11a wireless connection and it works fine. [Actually to be more precise, the PCH is connected to the PC hosting Swisscenter via a RJ45 cross over connection but the content that SC is serving up is on my media server SC accesses via network shares over the wireless]

When the video is first fired up, there is about 6-7s of buffering going on and then it plays. When seeking (pressing the right or left cursor) buffering starts again but after 2-3s video plays.

I am pretty happy with this.

Re: Streaming HD content problems - 2008/10/04 21:05 The fix for HD that is coming is for MKV files only, you should be able to hit 45MBs and higher with other HD content now.
