Manufacturer's Software - 2006/04/28 07:06 I'm just wondering how good the software that's supplied with the network players is. How is the Buffalo software? or IO-Data's software? or Snazio's software? ... etc

This is your chance to give your views on each product. What do you like about the software, what do you hate? What cool features do they have that are missing from SwissCenter?

Personally, I've used the Pinnacle software. SwissCenter was born from the simple fact that the software didn't handle large mp3 collections very well (in the early versions - I'm not sure how it copes now).

Rob
Player : Pinnacle Showcenter 200 and 1000 (wired ethernet)
Server : Windows XP Pro running on an Athlon XP 2200, 768 Mb RAM, 1.8 Tb storage.

Re:Manufacturer's Software - 2006/04/28 08:00 The software for servers from:

IO-Data
Buffalo
Momitsu
Neustron

And many others comes from the same core software (although I can't remember who actually wrote it). Something like iHome comes to mind though. These manufactures then make a few changes and call it their own. I've tried them all and they all pretty much make you really appriciate SwissCenter all that much more!!!

IO-Data also offers an "Advanced Server" which has a really ugly interface but claims to do video trascoding. I don't do to much with video but this seems to be a big item for a number of folks.

So the long and the sort of it is the manufacture software does not offer anything of value to me. The interface looks good (subjective comment) with lots of pretty icons but, things like searching just stink. None of them offer the now playing screen (which I really miss now that I running the beta again).

If it were not for third party developers like yourself I think this thing would be on e-bay by now.
Player: IO-Data LinkPlayer 2
Server: Windows XP SP2, Simese

Re:Manufacturer's Software - 2006/05/12 17:34 I've used a few (mostly IO-Data) and have to say, Swisscenter is the best I've used.

I was actually looking for somewhere in the forums to give kudos to the developer(s), because I like Swisscenter so much. I've had some frustrations with it, but it is so much better than anything else I've tried that it is worth the occasional issue.

So anyway, kudos to you...
