Don't make this mistake... - 2007/06/19 18:33 I decided that it would be a real pain to lose all those 3.99 movies that I have been burning and adding to the media server so I plugged in the 500 gig and started a copy of the movie directory and went to bed.

The next morning (I don't get up early) the thing was not only still copying but it was nowhere near being finished. What the??

Then it hit me that the server is an old machine with USB 1 ports on the front..

If you really want to see the speed difference between USB 1 and USB 2, try the above...
Showcenters 1000g/200/250HD Popcorn Hour A-100
Netgear HDX101 Powerline Adapters
Windows XP Simese 2.07 running latest SVN
NAS Server IBM NetVista 900Mhz/256RAM

Re: Don't make this mistake... - 2007/10/20 13:35 Actually, it's much more than that:
A Low Speed (1.1, 2.0) rate of 1.5 Mbit/s (192 KB/s)
A Full Speed (1.1, 2.0) rate of 12 Mbit/s (1.5 MB/s).
A Hi-Speed (2.0) rate of 480 Mbit/s (60 MB/s).

USB 2.0 is 40x faster than USB 1.1 at full speed, 320x faster than USB1.1 at low speed.

I've done the same thing before, only to find what I thought would take 10 minutes had taken 2 hours to get about halfway done.
