Fails to connect... - 2010/02/07 12:24 Simese version 2.5.10 et seq

Sometimes my server will randomly stop responding saying it can't connect. Simese, SimeseClient, and MySql are all running in task manager...

When I look in the Simese console it has line after line of this:

Failed to Connect 192.168.1.102:2020

Re-booting the server solves it..

What is it trying to connect to and why is it failing?

Re: Fails to connect... - 2010/02/09 03:29 Not sure if this is caused by the same thing but i have noticed that if one of the evas gets switched off and back on again and the server has been on for some time it will not find sc any more, and I have to reboot the server as well. Players that have already found the server and are in the sc menus don't have the same problem. ------------------------------------------------------------

Re: Fails to connect... - 2010/03/07 07:02 The message "Failed to Connect 192.168.1.102:2020" comes from the UPNP discovery. The player broadcasts a message and Simese tries to connect to the player using the above URL to notify the player of it's existence. Connecting to the player fails....

So far I see no reason why this could fail. But I do have the experience the 2.6 version sometimes doesn't accept any new connections. But I haven't found out yet why and when....

Re: Fails to connect... - 2010/04/08 16:27 When I changed from Windows Vista to Windows 7 I wondered, why the Simese server worked very well called by the internet browser, but the connection to it failed from my Pinnacle ShowCenter 200 which is connected over WLAN.
The reason was the Windows firewall because Simese started as a system service. I realized that when I started Simese testing with a click on the program item in the program directory. The system asked me for a special allowance to give for simese.exe and mysql.exe. After giving allowance the Simese server doesn'nt make any problems also running as system service.

I need help here...

For some reason, my server randomly loses the internet connection (which causes Simese to fail per above). When I hit the diagnose connection problem it says that there is a "winsock" problem.

Re-booting solves the problem but I shouldn't have to re-boot all the time. Does anyone have ANY ideas as to what might be causing this?

Re: Fails to connect... - 2010/05/24 16:45 I was under the impression from marco that the loss of UPNP discovery was a known issue with simese 2.6.x which he was going to have a look into .

As for the loss of internet connection issue _ ipresume that you are connecting via a lan or via ubb style modem??????

Eitherway seems a bit odd that the connection is being dropped, however it could indicate a problem with the drivers for your network card (if this is what you are using to connect to the internet (however if this is the case then you would loose all connection to the network as well)

Re: Fails to connect... - 2010/05/25 09:09 Someone has suggested that the reason it is happening at night is that the computer is shutting down the NIC card. So under properties for the NIC card I have disabled the option to let the computer shut it off to save power.

We'll see if that works.
