Windows Vista installation - 2008/09/07 10:55 Installing from Simese_SwissCenter-1.45.exe I made the experience that choosing 'Start Simese manually' didn't work correctly. Simese shows after start as the last line the following text: 'Unable to write to C:\ProgramDate\Simese\php\php.ini'. The access to localhost:8080 is not possible. Closing the Simese application leads to the error: "Access violation at address 00430128 in module 'Simese.exe'. Read of address 00000000".
The same happens at the start immediately after installation with the option 'Start Simese on computer startup'. In this case Simese works fine after the following computer startup.

Re: Windows Vista installation - 2008/09/09 04:54 It seems Simese cannot write to php.ini file for some reason. Can you check the permissions for the php.ini file? Every user should be able to write to the file.

Re: Windows Vista installation - 2008/09/09 06:20 Hi Marco,
I've the same problem since this weekend when i tried to install simese 1.45 on Vista Home Premium. I checked the permissions for the php.ini (and for the relevant directories) => no restrictions.
Any other idea?

Re: Windows Vista installation - 2008/09/15 10:25 Hi: Similar problem for me using Windows Vista Ultimate. I
downloaded the Swisscenter package (2.0.5) with improved Popcorn
Hour support (for future use although I plan to use it at the
moment with Pinnacle Showcenter 200). After installation I get
the message "Cannot write to ...\php.ini" and localhost:8080 is
not found. The Simese Server appears to be running and
Showcenter shows an icon for Simese but there is no connection
made.

Up to now I have been using Showcenter with Windows Media Player
interface which is rudimentary. There was no php folder present
before the installation so the installation procedure must have
set up the permissions. I seems to be quite a task to uninstall
Swisscenter with Vista constantly refusing to delete things!

Re: Windows Vista installation - 2008/09/15 11:35 Maybe you can use System Restore to rollback to just before installing Simese? If you can, then you'd be better off installing version 1.45 of Simese. Player : Pinnacle Showcenter 200 and 1000 (wired ethernet)
Server : Windows XP Pro running on an Athlon XP 2200, 768 Mb RAM, 1.8 Tb storage.

Re: Windows Vista installation - 2008/09/16 07:00 Finally got Swisscenter (2.0.5) installed under Vista and interfacing with Showcenter 200 by signing in on the Adminstrator account and doing the installation from there. Now there is now no refusal to write to php.ini.

Re: Windows Vista installation - 2008/09/16 09:57 Not quite there yet! Having succeeded in the installation I signed on to localhost:8080 from my browser and did a system test. Green ticks on the main items. I then defined some new locations for my Photos and music and started Swisscenter up on Showcenter. Oddly the Main menu showed just 2 items: 1. Internet Services 2. Configuration. Is this normal? I clicked on to the configuration menu and did a scan for new media but nothing changed on the main menu. The screenshots on the Swisscenter site indicate a Main menu with lots of items e.g. View photographs, Listen to music etc. I assumed these would appear once media locations were specified but it seems not. When new locations are defined on localhost:8080 here is no indication that they have been created nor is there a way of seeing what folders are being scanned. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Re: Windows Vista installation - 2008/09/16 16:57 It sounds like you still have installation issues. When you added media locations in the configuration did they add successfully? If they are not listed then they failed which would explain your empty menu.

Can you set your logging level to 8 and add the media locations again, then attach your logfile to your post. See the documentation + FAQ if you can't find your logfile.

Re: Windows Vista installation - 2008/09/17 03:51 At your suggestion I tried to add media locations again and it was clear that it had not been done successfully. I had a closer look and then realised that I had not filled in the "Unrated certificate" box. I set this to U and as if by magic the locations appeared! They now appear as well in Showcenter. I feel a little stupid about this! Thanks Nigel for pointing me in the right direction and thanks everyone for your comments.
