Ubuntu gutsy and HD250 - 2008/07/22 14:04 Hi all

I am now the proud owner of a HD250. I loaded swisscenter onto gutsy with no issues. The problem is, I can't play avi's. When I go to my swisscenter in my browser and select a file, I am prompted to download a m3u file. I am assuming this is causing the problem with the HD250. How do I get around this.

Thanks

Re: Ubuntu gutsy and HD250 - 2008/07/25 06:53 You've not actually said what your HD250 does when you try to play a video!!

Does it just hang or does it display a message, or something else?

Re: Ubuntu gutsy and HD250 - 2008/07/25 07:41 Actually, my post was really half ars*d

What was happening was that when i went to play a file, the screen would blank for a few seconds and then it would return to the play selected movie screen.

I however have now found the problem, although I have no idea why this is happening. I set the system up and did a media scan before I got the HD250. Swisscenter found all my media as expected. I then did some work on the files from a different machine NFS mounted my media files. I then rescaned my library, the files were detected however when I then connected my HD250 this problem occured.

I have resolved it using 2 methods, I am not actually sure which works best.
1. I made copies of all my files and folders associated with my swisscenter media and deleted the originals.
2. I removed the media paths from Swisscenter and added them again and did a new media scan.

I suspect this has to do with the file permissions on the folders and files changing when using NFS. I did check permissions with Nautilus and they seemed ok.

By doing what I did with the copy and/or delete and rescan, I must be "resetting" the permissions. I of course am guessing as to the cause and the effect of the "fix". If anyone can shed some light on this "quirk" it would be appreciated.

This is what fixed your issue as re-adding the media locations also recreates the symlink for your folders.
