SC Can't see network share - 2008/09/11 06:40 I have an eSATA drive connected to my Istar with all of the nmt applications installed and running. All of my media is on this drive and I would like to use SC to access it as I much prefer the interface and features over MyIhome etc.

Problem is SC doesn't detect any network shares even though the Istar is showing in the "Clients Discovered" section.

If I try to add media locations on this share I get

"I'm sorry, the directory you specified does not exist"

There is nothing in the network shares drop-down menu to choose from.

Re: SC Can't see network share - 2008/09/11 06:59 The network share dropdown is only required if you are trying to play DVD images (iso, img, ifo).

Can you see your eSata drive from XP?

Re: SC Can't see network share - 2008/09/11 07:18 Yes, I can.

So can we play DVD images with SC now? I thought it was impossible.

Re: SC Can't see network share - 2008/09/12 06:40 Just a bit more info on this. I installed Twonky on my PC and that found the network share straight away. SC still can't see it. Client : IstarMiniHD wired 200Mb Homeplugs

Re: SC Can't see network share - 2008/09/12 07:22 When you enter the media location you must always enter a valid Windows path to the location.

Which firmware do you have on your iStar? (post agent string)

You definitely have a Network Share defined on your iStar pointing to your folder containing DVD images?

The network shares dropdown has only been tested on a Popcorn, maybe the iStar is a little different. In your browser can you enter:
http://192.168.0.20:8883/network_share.html
changing the IP that of your iStar. Then view the source of the page and save as a txt file and post here.

When you refer to Twonky seeing your network share I think you are confusing terms. Twonky will see the drive on the network, but won't see the Network Shares you have defined on the iStar.

Re: SC Can't see network share - 2008/09/12 08:15 Well that's strange. I know I have the 080808 firmware installed but the agent string is:-

Syabas/50-17-080612-15-QPG-402-000/15-QPG Firefox/0.8.0+ (gaya1 TV Res1920x1280; Browser Res1100x656-32bits; Res1280x720; mac_addr=00:06:dc:41:be:05)

I've attached the source code of the resulting page from your URL.

The path I'm entering is

\\Smp8634\share\Video\Films\DVDs

If I do that it asks me to enter a network share.
If I try one which is just AVIs it says the location does not exist.

Thanks

Re: SC Can't see network share - 2008/09/12 08:38 Which firmware does the iStar identify on the Maintenance page?

The page you attached confirms that you have NOT defined the Network Share as requested.

On iStar select Network Share and Add location of DVD images, name it something like 'DVD Images'. You should then see DVD Images in the SwissCenter dropdown.

I think you should also assign \\Smp8634\share\Video a drive letter in Windows.

Re: SC Can't see network share - 2008/09/12 09:28 Maintenance page identifies firmware version 080808 as I thought.

New problem has developed in that the Istar can no longer see my workgroup so I can't set up the share. It was working fine a few minutes ago. Basically I set up the share but had the syntax wrong (missed a colon) so I changed it. Unfortunately the Istar doesn't always register changes immediately, so I rebooted it. Now it can't even see the workgroup. What a PITA!

Re: SC Can't see network share - 2008/09/12 09:39 With the 080808 firmware I thought you could simply browse to select the network share. No need to worry about colons etc.

If it can't see your workgroup then it's possibly being blocked by a firewall somewhere.

Re: SC Can't see network share - 2008/09/12 09:48 You can use the "Network Browse" feature but I wanted to set up the share as nfs because, despite the claims for the latest firmware, smb just won't play DVD ISOs properly.
Anyway I've sorted that part now; the nfs share is set up and working but SC still doesn't see it.
I've assigned drive letters to the three media types but if I just enter the path
W:\Films\DVDs SC again asks for a network share.

Re: SC Can't see network share - 2008/09/12 10:28 Now you have the network share setup are you still not seeing 'DVDs' in the media locations dropdown?

Re: SC Can't see network share - 2008/09/12 10:45 Hmm, this could be due to your clients table reporting the wrong firmware version. In which case it possibly has the wrong IP too which would explain why SC cannot see the iStar.

Don't know if you've already done this but goto Edit The Database and enter:
repair table clients;
then Execute SQL.

Hopefully this will allow the clients to be updated with the correct IP and agent string.

Edit: After looking at the logfile you may also need to apply the following to the database too:

ALTER TABLE clients ADD ( mac_addr VARCHAR(17) default null);
ALTER TABLE clients ADD ( browser_scr_x_res INT UNSIGNED default null);
ALTER TABLE clients ADD ( browser_scr_y_res INT UNSIGNED default null);

Re: SC Can't see network share - 2008/09/12 11:50 I had already executed the "repair table clients". Before I did that there was nothing showing in the "Clients discovered" section at all.
I've done it again but the agent string still shows the previous firmware version.
The IP address is correct though.

I also tried the other commands you mentioned but that hasn't solved the problem either.

Re: SC Can't see network share - 2008/09/12 12:12 Well your logfile shows that it's failing to update the clients table with the correct agent string:

'Syabas/50-17-080808-15-QPG-402-000/15-QPG Firefox/0.8.0+ (gaya1 TV Res1920x1280; Browser Res1100x656-32bits; Res1280x720; mac_addr=00:06:dc:41:be:05)'

Re: SC Can't see network share - 2008/09/13 03:20 OK done that but it seems to have made things a bit worse if anything. My Istar is no longer showing in the Clients Discovered section and I still can't add any locations stored on the share.

Re: SC Can't see network share - 2008/09/15 19:15 I just realised that I only check for network shares on the Popcorn Hour, other NMT players are not checked.

In the file capabilities.php the is a function get_nmt_network_shares().

Changing the first couple of lines to:

Code:

 // IP addresses of all connected NMT's $nmt db_col_to_list("select ip_address from clients where box_id like '%POP%' or box_id like '%QPG%' ".                                                           "or box_id like '%HDD%' or box_id like '%EGR%'");

should fix it for you.

This is assuming your clients discovered section has been repopulated.

Re: SC Can't see network share - 2008/09/16 05:08 My clients discovered section has not been repopulated. I've tried repair table clients; but it still only shows:-

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-GB; rv:1.9.0.1) Gecko/2008070208 Firefox/3.0.1

No sign of my Istar (It is turned on BTW)

Incidentally; If I try to execute the other three commands you recommended earlier

ALTER TABLE clients ADD ( mac_addr VARCHAR(17) default null);
ALTER TABLE clients ADD ( browser_scr_x_res INT UNSIGNED default null);
ALTER TABLE clients ADD ( browser_scr_y_res INT UNSIGNED default null);

I get three error messages :

SQL command failed

This happened since I recreated my database.

Re: SC Can't see network share - 2008/09/16 12:56 Fingers crossed - I think I've sorted it. Uninstalled and reinstalled Swisscenter. Applied the database commands, all of which ran successfully. And Hey Presto! I have added all of my locations on the network share.
Just doing a search for new media which will take a while and, if all is OK, will report back.
Thanks for your help Nigel.

Re: SC Can't see network share - 2008/09/16 15:44 OK. I've added my various media locations and SC can see and browse them.
Swisscenter is correctly reporting firmware 080808 on my Istar
Problems remaining:-

1. Can't play any videos through Swisscenter (they play OK over SMB or NFS). I just get "Could Not Play"
2. SC still can't see any network shares so I can't add DVDs

Any thoughts?

Re: SC Can't see network share - 2008/09/16 16:49 Can you post another logfile at level 8 whilst trying to play a few videos? The 'Could not play' message usually means you're trying to play a video that the player is not capable of playing.

Did you apply the change to the file capabilities.php I posted earlier? SC will not see the network shares on the Istar without this.

Re: SC Can't see network share - 2008/09/17 03:34 I'd forgotten to make the amendment. I've done it and now the share appears, however it says the directory specified doesn't exist when I try to add the location.

Still can't play videos. All videos have played before so it's not a player issue. Could this be something to do with the fact that the media is on an eSata drive directly conected to the Istar?

I've attached my latest log file.

Re: SC Can't see network share - 2008/09/19 12:18 Update: Got SC to accept the media locations again (added my logon credentials to the Simese service in XP - as seen in another thread on this forum).
I've added them using the following path

\\Smp8634\share\Video

rather than using the mapped drive letter.

Still have the problem whereby no video files can be played - getting the
"Could not play" message on the Istar Buffering screen, then straight back to the menu. The same videos have played correctly before and play OK when browsing direct from the Istar.

I've attached my log file at level 8 when trying to play a couple of videos.

Strangely, viewing photos works fine.
