Problem with network shares - 2008/11/11 12:38 Hi

i'm running swisscenter with the latest package optimized for Popcorn hour. I'm using the windows stuff.....

Now after a few days trying to setup network shares, i need help.

If i use local drive names eg: D:\whatever.... in Swisscenter config then the PCH can play the videos....
If i use \\IP-Adress\share...., then i get the infamous "could not play file"

thwe .m3u Files looks with the working (D:\..) like...

http://10.1.1.2:8080/D%3A/Movie/Comedy/Moviename.mpg

with the \\Share it looks like

http://10.1.1.2:8080///10.1.1.2/Sharename/Movie/Comedy/Moviename.mpg

of course the second m3u will not work, but what and where to change this?

Best regards

Matthew

I guess, I can confirm your observations:

All my media is stored on a DS207 - NAS.

While running SC (latest SVN 1117) on a WIN-XP Simese 2.07 installation, I have to mount the DS207 on the WIN PC in oder to get videos played.

The location of my media is either (as displayed in Windows Explorer) \\DS207\video\Samples or (mounted) W:\Samples.

A media search for the Category "Samples" brings the same result not depending on the string \\DS207\video\Samples or W:\Samples in Media Locations.

The difference just comes up when trying to play the videos:

Using the Media Location W:\Samples everything works flawlessly, using \\DS207\video\Samples the famous "Could not play" message is displayed by the PCH.

Probably this issue will help to locate your problem?

Re: Problem with network shares - 2008/11/13 03:42 Hi Joe_999

Thank you for your answer and copy my observations. Now i'm just asking is this "normal behaviour" and "by design", or is something wrong, i have to dig into?

Because, if it's "by design", then i can't imagine why simese is running as a service, because all the good stuff about running apps as services is gone as soon as you have to logon to get drive mapping takes place....

My second question then is: If it is "by design" in windows, do i have the same on linux?
If not, then i know what my next steps will be

Best regards
