The very first release of SwissCenter was on this day 10 years ago!

Since it’s early days of being designed specifically for use with a Pinnacle ShowCenter it has evolved with features to be compatible with a range of players from various companies upto the Popcorn Hour 200 series of players. Over this time the players have evolved to be able to play a wider range of media formats for which SwissCenter has been continually updated to handle. It all started with basic media playback but soon evolved into a media experience whereby SwissCenter would get additional media information from the internet to provide fanart and details about your movies, TV series, and even music artists/albums. Additional online services were also added to play internet radio, movie trailers, etc.

For a free open-source project like this to last for 10 years is quite an achievement, which wouldn’t be possible without the support and enthusiasm of it’s users.

I was hoping to have ready an anniversary release for this day, but as usual was not possible due to other commitments. Development is still progressing though, just not quickly, and there are still a few new features I’d like to complete and get released.

Development of Simese ended a few years ago and is not compatible (and never will be) with more recent PHP releases 5.3, 5.4, 5.5.

This has restricted development of SwissCenter as I need additional (non Simese) development environments to be able to test later PHP releases.

We need to keep SwissCenter simple to install, without having to individually install/configure Apache, MySQL, and PHP. There are various free solutions out there that can be used such as WAMP, XAMPP, etc.

Please join the discussion in the forum to determine the best solution to keep SwissCenter compatible with current server configurations.

Which preconfigured Apache environment should replace Simese?

There is a new site theaudiodb.com that is the equivalent of tvdb and themoviedb but specifically for music. It aims to provide high quality artist fanart, banners and other details. There is already a substantial amount of fanart available as it is linked to fanart.tv.

In addition to providing details for regular artists/albums it also allows users to submit details and artwork for music DVD’s!

If you would like a SwissCenter music video parser for this site then I encourage you to sign up and help the community by submitting details and artwork for your music videos.
